\"\"Staten Island RC Modelers has dedicated its flying field in memory of founding members George and Mary Brown.<\/p>\n

The Staten Island RC Modelers held a ceremony on April 22, 2017 to honor the late George and Mary Brown.<\/p>\n

The plaque, presented to their son, John Brown, read,<\/p>\n

\u201cBrownie\u2019s Field, This flying field is dedicated to the memory of George and Mary Brown in appreciation of their devotion, commitment, and friendship to the club members of Staten Island R.C. Modelers.\u201d<\/p>\n

George and Mary opened Brownie\u2019s Pro & Sport Hobbies in Staten Island in 1971.\u00a0 Mary passed away on October 25, 2014, and George passed away on April 20, 2016.<\/p>\n

John is now the owner and manager of the hobby shop.<\/p>\n

According to John, George and Mary helped start the club in 1973 and George helped countless people learn to fly and many later became instructors.\u00a0 This legacy continues today.<\/p>\n

John shared,
\n\u201cJust before the one-year anniversary of Dad\u2019s passing, Gene Gavin (an SIRCM member) approached me and asked if it would be alright if the club dedicated the field in memory of both Mom and Dad,\u201d John continued, \u00a0\u201cGene is one of Dad\u2019s prized students!\u201d \u201cHe\u2019s also a great friend of the family.\u201d \u00a0\u201cOf course, I was totally onboard with this wonderful honor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, on April 22, on a cold rainy day, we had the field dedication ceremony.\u00a0 Gene spoke and had so many wonderful things to say about both Mom and Dad.\u00a0 My brother, Robert, was there and spoke about how the members of the club were all our extended family.\u00a0 I feel this way also.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
